The alarm went off at 6:30am and Viki just declared “nope”, rolled over, and went back to sleep. It took a few minutes of coaxing to get us out of bed, fed with muesli (and yogurt – we has fridge access last night!), and off cycling. Our host jean-jaques left before we did for his cleaning shift at the local jail.
The day started beautifully, at 20 degrees and slightly cloudy. We were making good progress, so skipped the bakery at 25km, planning to stop at the town at 35km. Unfortunately, there wasn’t another bakery or restaurant or supermarket to be found along our route until the finish at 100km. We had to settle for eating what rations we had with us. That was an apple each and a shared snack bag of almonds at 35km, then muesli and sausage for lunch around 65km, a snack of 5 figs each when we passed a fig tree, and some beans that ended up being filled with worms when we passed a bean crop.
We passed rural farmlands the entire day, the vast majority being covered with sunflowers. The land was undulating, but no big continuous climbs.
Today’s finish was at Lannemezan. We stopped at Lidl for groceries and ice crewm (tomorrow is Sunday, so need to buy tomorrow’s supplies today), the Municipal pool where we showered for free, a local bar, where we replenished our water bottles, and finally the town “free car camping” parking lot where we’ve set up camp. Dinner was gnocchi with a jar of bolognese. We’re again sleeping with the fly off!
