We had planned to skip our rest day in Porto in order to have shorter days now. But conditions have been so great that we’ve been doing more than expected. We’ve decided we’ll have an extra rest day in Lisbon. Conditions have been so good, in fact, that we did a super day today in order to arrive early at our hotel tomorrow and get more time resting and in the pool.
There was a horrendous 2km stretch near the beginning of remote patchy road through the forest. This then turned into a beautiful remote paved road seemingly in the middle of nowhere, that eventually brought us within eyesight of the ocean. It was beautiful and calm and we had a very pleasant start of the day.
Coffee at 35km in a small beach town. Lunch at 65km in Nazaré (mortadella and goat cheese today, since Viki hasn’t taken favorably to the cured meats and cheeses). Coffee and meat pastries in the very touristy town of Obidos, which is up on a hill and has a cool wall and fort. Then a final push through a very hot afternoon to the finish.
We’re again staying in “autocaravan parking”, which is a designated free area for motor homes. We’re probably not technically supposed to be putting up a tent, so we waited until dark, had pesto rice for dinner, and now heading to bed at 9pm. Excited for the short day of 68km to Cascais, where we’ll be taking a rest day and staying at some nice hotels!
