Finally our rest day in Trondheim! We slept in hours more than normal and didn’t get out of bed until 9:30am! We celebrated by cooking something that would have been impossible while bike touring – French toast! As our airbnb doesn’t have a kitchen, we had to use the camp stove on the window sill with the window open. It was rather precarious, having to hold the pot lid / frying pan above the flame so that the breakfast wouldn’t burn. All went well and we were rewarded with a delicious breakfast of French toast and blueberry jam.
Most of the morning was spent doing chores. We organized our things, oiled the bike chains, made a big batch of muesli for the coming week, and I finally had access to a bathtub, which I used to locate the hole in my Thermarest. It wasn’t until 1pm that we finally left.
We spent pretty much the entire afternoon eating. Our first stop, after googling for the best cinnamon buns in Trondheim was Godt Brod, where we each had a cinnamon bun. They were the “knot” style – very soft and cinnamony, but not very sweet. Next up was coffee at Jacobsen and Svart. As we arrived they just so happened to be taking a fresh batch of cinnamon buns out of the oven, so we each had another. These ones were the swirl kind – delicious and warm, still not as sweet as the North American variety, but with carmelized sugar on the bottom. Finally, at 5pm, we had an early dinner at Hagen Bakklandet – the vegan buffet restaurant we went to on our last trip to Trondheim. It’s cozy and hipstery and the food was delicious (for being vegan).
To end the day, we went for a stroll, mostly to walk off the food. We walked by Trondheim’s Nidaros Cathedral and slowly made our way back home. Now we’ve just finished packing all of our things back into our panniers and ready for our next section of riding – to Bergen!
