We’ve finally set off from London! Catching the 3:55pm Heathrow Express, we got the last train on which bicycles are allowed to the airport.
It was quite the process packing down our bikes for the plane. We bought clear CTC bicycle bags to use in place of bike boxes – this is a bit of a risky move. Our bikes will be entirely unprotected and at the mercy of baggage handlers on the way from London to Stockholm and then from Stockholm to Tromso. After an hour or so of packing, the check in agent asked us to carry the bikes through a staff only section where they would be personally carried right to the plane. Fingers crossed for no damage!
In London we somehow scored access to the Lufthansa lounge. This was a nice change from the usual Priority Pass lounges. We had two hours to chow down on some rather tasty green chicken curry and lentil soup.
Arriving at Stockholm at 12:30am, we found a spot in a corner, laid down our Thermarests, and tried to sleep a few hours. Andrew’s Thermarest seems to have a leak – we’ll need to investigate in the coming nights.
