We had a nice long sleep last night, from around 9pm till 6:50am, just interrupted by the foghorn of a snorer a few beds away (even disturbing me, with earplugs in). We set off just before 8am (the albergue had mandatory exit by 8am).
It soon began to thoroughly rain, which was maintained through much of the day. Around 25km we stopped for coffees with our leftover pastries from yesterday (coffee with milk and they gave a square of banana bread for €1.40). Our credit card got blocked (seemingly need to add a travel notice to it for an Agoda charge).
At around 40km we arrived in Portugal, as we crossed the river Minho. A few rays of sun shone through the clouds, and we thought it signaled good weather to come in our future. As we arrived at the ocean, beginning our journey south, we then encountered headwind for the next 50km and we crawled along at 10-12km/h.
We stopped at a supermarket, excited to try Portuguese food. We had a loaf of “river bread”, which was a stodgy mass along with Portuguese egg tarts (something Viki’s been excited for for the whole trip).
Finally we made it to the Albergue at 5:30pm and Viki was delighted that they had space for us (€10 per person). We’ve just been out to the only cafe/bar/restaurant around, where we had a pizza and chocolate pastry. The time zone changed by one hour, but we’ll still try to start by sunrise (now around 7am, was around 8am in Spain time zone).
