Around midnight the rain started and the wind made the tent material flap around. By 7am it was a full on thunderstorm, bucketting with rain and loud cracks of thunder nearby. Because of this, we stayed in the tent until the rain lessened and didn\u2019t set off until nearly 10am.<\/p>\n<p>We had coffee out for a second day, in Port Vendres, this time with pain au chocolat. This was our first French coffee. We got a large, with milk, but it was tiny and very strong.<\/p>\n<p>The day started hilly, as we made our way along the rugged coastline between little towns. The route was even called the \u201croute de cols\u201d, referring to the large number of mountain passes.<\/p>\n<p>Like yesterday, our progress was quite slow to begin with, largely due to the late start. We didn\u2019t have lunch until 3pm, at Casino Hypermarket. We had baguette with leftover lomo (Spanish meat), some cheese called \u201cChausee aux moines\u201d, and tomato. I got a bottle of Bordeaux for EUR2.90, which occupied my water bottle holder for the rest of the day.<\/p>\n<p>The second half of the day was much flatter, with some sections on very smooth pavement. The route ran along interconnected spits of land. We made a 5pm stop for oysters, mussels, and clams in a little fishing community and cycled until we reached 100km, conveniently at a nice spot with a picnic table by a lock.
