All day. Without stop. We woke up to a light drizzle, made breakfast, quickly packed up the tent, and departed for our first ferry, at kilometre 22. We timed it nicely, arriving about 15 minutes before departure and set sail from Vennesund to Holm. There was a gentle drizzle through this portion of the ride.<\/p>\n<p>The rain quickly strengthened and for much of the ride to lunch it was just short of a downpour. By the time we hit kilometre 50, lunch time, it was still raining and we could find no dry place to make lunch. Getting colder and krankier, we got fed up at kilometre 53, found a mystery gazebo containing some post boxes and decided to stop there. We stayed for about an hour. The owners happened to arrive and find us in there, but smiled and said that we could stay.<\/p>\n<p>We carried on to a bus shelter, at kilometre 80, where we each had a granola bar and a nectarine, slightly more ripe than the rock hard versions we had yesterday. At kilometre 96 we hit a town &#8211; Kolvereid, with supermarkets. We walked in, and as per usual, gazed in awe at the rows and rows of food, carefully inspecting every single item on offer. We settled on two cinnamon buns and a jar of olives. That would make a nice snack, and accompaniment to dinner, we thought!<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere along the ride we had a near fatality. There was a downhill section, where I sped up, and then a metal grate style bridge. I slowed somewhat (but not enough), knew that it would be slippery, so let go of the brakes and hit it straight on, but I soon found that it was completely slippery. My bike slid one way, then the next, penduluming such that I was about to hit the ground, when I reached the pavement on the far side, caught some grip, and somehow escaped the fall.<\/p>\n<p>We arrived at our destination, at kilometre 111 &#8211; Hofles. Now we are camped, writing this post, listening to the rain fall on the tent. Excitingly, this is the first time that we&#8217;ve seen dusk since our trip began and are bewildered by not being able to identify things in the low light conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Ps &#8211; we&#8217;ve decided to take a rest day when we get to Trondheim and have booked a place to stay for Monday and Tuesday nights.
