Sharon reported that Tuffnut would be installing the security cables on the morning of June 9th. She also finalized the software list with the teachers and will go ahead with the software order. Geoff will investigate the possibility of a discount for the school on the Microsoft component of the software with his contacts. The PlanIt CD order has also been placed.
The installation of proxy software was scheduled for this evening. This software allows any computer in the school to access the internet via a dial up connection established with the modem on the server.
We discussed some known internet sites focused at schools. These include:
- Compass 97 (www.moms.com)
- FamilyWare (www.familyware.com) Mr. Kassam has involvement with this company.
- School Net (www.schoolnet.ca)
There will be another training session with the teachers the week after the school closes at which time all the teachers will be meeting at the school. John volunteered to give a session on spreadsheets
We reviewed and adjusted the technology committee budget for the 97 - 98 school year. The budget includes computers for the new classes, multimedia publishing devices, network enhancements, audio visual equipment and software. Geoff mentioned that we should consider laptops in the school and it was agreed that the new administration computer would be used in the first trial.
This meeting was attended by Sharon Vipond, Geoff Wheelwright, John Pao, and Bill Maurer.
