Dear Parents

The best we can be is daily what we ask of ourselves at Mulgrave; last Friday, the audience witnessed exactly that in terms of team-work, focus, musicality, movement, performance and sheer joy. I have tremendous faith in all Mulgravians, and was unsurprised (but very thrilled, nonetheless!) by the professionalism of the cast and crew. We have every reason to be proud of our school, our faculty, staff, parents, and our ‘pinnacles’; the children. If you missed ‘Oliver!’ Mr. Robertson (Andrew, Christopher-G.3) has been assiduously cutting , splicing and editing his video version of the production. All proceeds of monies collected in donation form (minimum $20.00) are being generously given to the school.

Our next public performance will be on June 18, at 7:00 p.m. when, at our virtual ‘home from home’, the Centennial Theatre, we will present our Summer Concert and share in the pleasure of those students to whom awards will be given.

GRADE 1 THESPIAN’S COMMENT ON OLIVER!

Sean Murphy, G.1

I couldn’t believe how much fun a play was and it was called Oliver! I was a street urchin and I sang ‘Oom Pah Pah’ and ‘Who Will Buy’. Bill Sykes was so mean he killed Nancy but he did not kill Nancy’s friend Bet and even he died. Oliver was so nice, so nice that it looked like he was the nicest person in the play.

Alexandra Wheelwright, G. 1

Last night I was in a play called Oliver! I thought that Nancy and Bet were really good. I was a street urchin. My dad was in it. My dad killed Nancy. The crowd ran around Nancy. I liked the songs ‘Oom Pah Pah’, ‘Consider Yourself and ‘Who Will Buy’. I had lots of fun.

CHOIR REMINDER

Choir members are reminded that there is one more Friday after-school rehearsal, on Friday, June 6. Pick-up time will be shortly after 4:30 p.m.

This is a very important rehearsal as we prepare for the Spring Concert, particularly so as the school will be closed the afternoon of Friday, the 13th.

PARENT PARTICIPATION ASSEMBLY

ASSEMBLY BEGINS AT 8:15 A.M.

Mulgrave parents will be "on stage" on Friday, June 6, immediately following the Grade 4 assembly modelling golf wear fashions from the Pro Shop at Seymour Golf & Country Club. Featured in the show will be our very own Bev Funston, Antonio Chiavattari, Deborah Penn, Nancy and Mark Spooner, Edi Smithies, and we are hoping that one or two more men will volunteer! Music will be specially selected for this event by Mr. Claude Mclean. Even if you are ambivalent toward golf, come out and cheer us on!

FRIDAY THE 13TH GOLF CLINIC, TOURNAMENT & DINNER DANCE

In just 2 weeks time, Mulgrave will host its very first ever golfing event. The response has been enthusiastic! To date, 50 of the only tournament 60 spots have been committed to. The NO FEAR Golf Clinic, on the other hand, has openings for up to 30 more. Those of us who are not yet golfers or would enjoy some instruction in a relaxed and fun atmosphere may consider participating in this non-threatening way! Everyone is invited to the Friday the 13th evening high jinx at the Seymour Golf & Country Club. Come out and support our golfers and duffers in the Putting Challenge just outside the Clubhouse, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Who has the most accurate putt? Have you seen anyone putt with a hockey stick? How about a billiards cue? We encourage the non-golfing enthusiasts to join us for the barbecue buffet dinner, beginning at 7:00 p.m., the Awards presentation (some surprises await you!), raffles and dancing, from 8:00 to 12 midnight. Black cats optional!

Please do not be disappointed and return your Pre-registration forms with a cheque to Mulgrave School A.S.A.P.

Golf or Clinic & Dinner : $150.00/person
Dinner Only: $ 60.00/person

OLIVER HAS LOST HIS SCHOOL JACKET!

Graydon Tullis, who so wonderfully portrayed Oliver!, has misplaced his navy blue school jacket. It is named and has been missing since Thursday, May 22. Please check that such jacket has not mysteriously appeared in either back packs or at home.

STORAGE SPACE - HELP

We would very much like to store our wonderful Oliver! set, props and costumes for future re-cycling. Mr. Ayers (Brandon, G.2) who laboriously transported, unpacked, repacked all accoutrements, who tractored the trailer hither and thither ....we salute you!! Mr. Ayers is researching storage space for us; if anyone has any contacts or indeed (I know this is unlikely) has space to offer/rent, please let Mrs. Grant know as soon as possible.

FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Whenever I see our Mulgrave students in a performance or presentation, I cannot help but marvel at their boundless enthusiasm, confidence, skills and abilities. We must thank a wonderful group of children, our dedicated and highly capable teachers and staff, and our committed parents for all of these presentations. But last Friday’s performance of Oliver! surpassed all previous heights and was nothing short of an absolutely brilliant production.

There was obviously a lot of work that went into the production and I think it showed in the exceptional quality of the performance. I heard so many wonderful comments after the show - "special", "magnificent", "superb", "outstanding", "magic", "professional" were but a few of them. It is wonderful for our small school to be doing so well in so many areas and at the same time to be able to present such an impressive and splendid dramatic performance.

Everybody involved in Oliver! is to be thanked but especially I would like to thank all the children who participated as well as Linda Hamer, Claude McLean, Nicola Ferguson, Stage Manager Jane Rees, and Marietta Botwright (James, G.3) for those wonderful costumes. Thank you all very much. It was well worth while.

Our Mulgrave Golf Tournament is only two weeks away on June 13. I know that space is still available for the Golf Clinic and, if you don’t play golf, you are invited and very welcome to come to the barbecue dinner in the evening. It will be fun and I hope to see you there!

If you can assist, please contact Mrs. Grant at the office.

ROYAL COMMONWEALTH ESSAY COMPETITION

It was a privilege and a pleasure to watch our uniform clad, confident and happy award winners receive their certificates last Saturday, May 24. The academic strand of the Mulgrave curriculum is vigourously alive and thriving!

Have a great weekend

Yours sincerely,
