Dear Parents,

The setting was splendid, the company convivial, and the spirit strong. The Spring Gala last Friday was a wonderful evening, in the true sense of the latter adjective. I think that Mr.Solloway (Tyler, G.4 and Dean, K-97/98) sang the adapted song from Oliver! which somehow epitomizes the synergy that is Mulgrave - I’ll Do Anything" is certainly the song sung in unison by all Mulgravian constituents.

Thank you very much, everyone! Our Spring Gala Committee members could certainly be career event organisers - only joking! The organisation was, however, seamless, and a manifestation of the countless hours of dedicated thought and planning.

EXPANSION

We are expanding again! The North Shore Winter Club has granted the school additional space for the academic year 1997/98, and thus we are able to offer a second Grade 1 class, as well as our already planned, and filled, second Kindergarten class.

OLIVER!

About two-thirds of the seats have already been sold. Mrs. Grant will be happy to sell you tickets at school; prices are $13.00 for adults, and $11.00 for students and seniors.

SET STRIKERS!

We need help loading the trailer with the set, immediately after the performance, and would be very grateful indeed to receive offers of aid.

PARKING

A concerned parent expressed his anxiety about the double parking practices which are daily crowding this street. As well, some Mulgrave families have been continuing to park illegally outside the I.C.B.C. and /or B.C. Hydro, thereby impeding the movements and progress of vehicles, which are often over-size trucks. We are ever mindful of both safety and legality, and I would ask you to make use of the parking facilities at the North Shore Winter Club should none be available outside the school.

SWIMMING

Please note that the school cannot be responsible for children who swim in the North Shore Winter Club pool after school. The Club employs two life-guards, but nonetheless I believe that our children should be accompanied as well by a responsible adult. Swimmers should change in the facilities provided by the North Shore Winter Club, and not in the school.

TENNIS

The tennis classes have been cancelled until after the production of Oliver! to allow children to attend rehearsals.

Classes will begin on Wednesday, May 28 (two classes left), Thursday. May 29 (three classes left and Friday, May 30 (two classes left).

KIDS CARE CLUB

The children enjoyed Civvies Day yesterday, and contributed $289.73 toward Manitoba flood relief. We will forward the money forthwith. Thanks to all children who dug into their savings to help others. Thanks also to teachers and other grown-ups who contributed. More news from Kids Care Club soon!

FAMILY MATH PROBLEM

72 students each drank a cup of hot chocolate and 2/3 of them went back for a second cup. Half of this group went back for a third and a quarter of these managed to go back for a fourth cup.

How many cups of hot chocolate were drunk? How much hot chocolate was consumed if each cup contained 200 ml.

Ben Thompson (G.4) and Nabila Pirani (G.5) provided the correct answer! 150 cups of hot chocolate were drunk and 30 litres was consumed in total.

There is no school on Monday, except for the the cast and crew of Oliver!

I hope the sun continues to shine for you.

Yours sincerely,
