Dear Parents
This week I received the Chief Examiner's Report for the 1995-96 Commonwealth Essay Competition, I learned from this chunky little booklet that there were 4587 essaysentered from 889 schools in 50 countries and territories. There are four prizes in each Class, as well as three other forms of recognition: specially commended essays which are good enough for a prize highly commended essays which are rated outstanding; and commended essays which are well above average. All competitors whose efforts are recognized in these ways receive personal certificates. One of our students, Charlsey Anthony, in G.5, received that personal honour this week, and consequently Charlsey's name, and that of our school, is printed in the booklet which is winging its way around the world. Well done, Charlsey!. One wonders how many Mulgravians may appear in next year's booklet, especially since we have 29 writers who will receive certificates at this year's presentation in April or May.

FAMILY MATHS
The Ace Sand Bag Company has one million bags of sand which have to be moved. If they load ten bags every minute how long do you think it will take to load all the bags? If they load bags for 12 hours each day and work 6 days per week, how long will it take to load all the bags.
The correct answer is 7200 loaded per day. 43.200 per week, all loaded in 23 weeks and 1 day.
Nabila Pirani (g.5) came close to the answer as did Shane Lalji (G.5). I enjoy your participation!
