Dear Parents
I am convinced that Marco Polo could NEVER, in all of his travels, been feted by a feast such as the one which we mock travellers enjoyed last week. Mrs. Robertson may not agree, but the night could have lasted for a week. The food was a veritable cornucopia of delights, the entertainment splendid, and the company, as always, convivial. I observe from the notice sent home to you all yesterday from the chair of the East Meets West event, Yvette Stachowiak (Alexandra Wheelwright, G-1) that she considers herself 'retired' - I think she may only just begun, and I thank this talented lady and her committed crew for all the endeavors which culminated in a wonderful evening.
T-SHIRTS
A special thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Collister (James-K) who supplied the East Meets West T. Shirts
MONSIEUR GEORGES WOODS
(Grade 1)
To-day was George's final day at Mulgrave and we are so sad to lose his daily, sparkling company. We all wish his parents Andrew and Cindy, and his little sister Victoria great happiness in their new English home. The Technology Committee, I am sure will miss their energetic, knowledgeable and witty chairperson whilst another school "under and English heaven" will luckily gain Mulgrave's loss. Mrs. Woods has herself donated a beautiful ceramic plate in her son's name to be presented at the Awards Ceremony to the Mulgrave student who exhibits the spirit and the enthusiasm of the school.
ODYSSEY OF THE MIND
Our four Odyssey of the Mind Teams have been working lunchtimes, evenings and weekends to prepare for their competition. Their dedication and teamwork will be rewarded this Saturday when they compete at the Odyssey of the Mind Competition in Richmond. If you want to cheer our teams or even see what Odyssey of the Mind is about, here is the schedule for our teams tomorrow.

Mr. Fischer
I would like to wish our four representative teams well at to-morrow's event. We believe that Mulgrave may be entering the youngest group of competitors; as I have written before, we may be a small school but we have large dreams! Have fun Mulgravians! We are already proud of your energy, enthusiasm and team spirit!
MATH QUESTION FOR FEBRUARY 21
Jason spent 1/3 of his allowance in the first store. In the second store, he spent half of the remainder, and finally one quarter of the remainder of his money in the third store. If he now has $2.25 left, how much did he have to start with?
ANSWER: $9, and this was correctly supplied by Ben Thompson (g.4), the Neil family (Fiona, G-2) and our "clock" man, Mr. Staff, together with his daughter, Natalie (G.2).
FAMILY TRIVIA TIME
Instead of numerical problems this week perhaps you might like to rack brains in response to General Knowledge questions.
1. In which country, and when (it was not recent!) was the toothbrush first developed?
2. How many hairs are on a human head?
3. When do the cows come home?
4. When does a pig become a hog?
5. Who were the three Graces?
FIRST FESTIVAL CHOIR SUCCESS
Mulgrave's first Festival Choir participated in the Coquitlam District Music Festival on Thursday. The choristers were well received by audience and adjudicators alike. After performing the singers were treated to a very fine vocal clinic by Mr. Rupert Lang, who complimented the choir on sounding so good for such a young group. The standing awarded was "Excellent", the second highest mark on the grid (though there was no first or second placing of choirs). It was also a treat to hear other choirs perform. We look forward to other great choral accomplishments in the future.
Mr. McLean

KINDERGARTEN 97
We have tested about fifty children thus far and I am thrilled, but not really surprised, by the fact that 38 of the 40 available spots have already been filled. We also have a very long waiting list for G.1 positions and growing numbers for other grades. Our school is becoming extremely well known, and not only on the North Shore. Some of our '97 kindergarten class are choosing to drive from New Westminister to join Mulgrave, having noted and appreciated our uniqueness. Part of that which makes our difference, is the sense of community and tremendous level of commitment displayed by our students, our faculty and staff and our parent body.
Have a good weekend
Yours sincerely,
Linda Hamer
Headmistress
