Dear Parents
Our "Poetic Bouquet" was a tad long, but the contents were, I think a kaleidoscope of excellence. Each child in the school was given his/her own moment in the sunshine to show and enjoy his/her unique personality and talent, and what talent Mulgrave is blessed with in our school's children, teachers and parents.
MATH QUESTION FOR FEBRUARY 14
A train 1 kilometre long travels at a steady speed of 39 K per hour. It enters a 3 K
long tunnel at exactly noon. At what time does the rear of the train emerge from the tunnel?
ANSWER TO MATH QUESTION FOR FEBRUARY 14
Correct answer: 12.06 p.m.
The correct answer was supplied by Mrs. Ayers (Brandon, G2), Mr. Pirani and Nabila-G.5, as well as the Klein family in its entirety (Thomas-G.2 and Robert - G.1). Well done!
MATH QUESTION FOR FEBRUARY 21
Jason spent 1/3 of his allowance in the first store. In the second store, he spent half of the remainder, and finally one quarter of the remainder of his money in the third store. If he now has $2.25 left, how much did he have to start with?
MUSIC AT MULGRAVE
At the Music Assembly this morning, the choir sang, as did Graydon Tullis (or Oliver) as well as Aurora Buchanan and Kayley Spooner (Nancy and Bet respectively). I believe we have the foundations of an outstanding music programme as this school and I congratulate Mr. McLean and his young musicians on an outstanding performance.
We were also treated to a demonstration of the musical flexibility of the new electric piano, which was recently purchased from some of the funds raised by the Fall Fair. We thank you all for helping us to acquire this tuneful treasure for our school.
BASKETBALLS AND VOLLEYBALLS
The Physical Education department will also benefit from the Fall Fair funds. Twenty good quality basketballs and twenty good quality volleyballs have been ordered for the use of the students.
WE ARE NOW MULGRAVE KNIGHTS
We were unable to use the first name chosen for our sports team because Point Grey Academy had already selected Mustangs. A second ballot produced the popular choice of KNIGHTS!
HONORARY GOVERNORS
Dr. Peter Coleman, Professor of Education in the Administrative Leadership Programme at Simon Fraser University has graciously agreed to become our first Honorary Governor. Professor Coleman is a many times published author, and is the possessor of an instantly recognised voice to C.B.C. Almanac listeners since he is the "Radio Professor".
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
The students collected $3694.20 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. I am aware that some parents, as did we as staff, had reservations about the rewards and incentives programme instituted by the Foundation. As a school, we emphasised empathy, compassion and participation, and down-played the competitive and financial elements of an otherwise very fine campaign.
Jamie Wyse (G.4) is to be featured in the North Shore News shortly; he was photographed cheerfully participating with his normal exuberance by Mr. Larose.
EAST MEETS WEST
I am very much looking forward to tomorrow's event. I would like to thank the hardworking and high powered committee in advance for all their efforts.
Have a good weekend
Yours sincerely,
Linda Hamer
Headmistress
