Communication From the School to the Parents
The school communicates both formally and informally with parents. Our formal means of communications are as follows:
A newsletter will be sent out weekly by the Headmistress.
This is an annual publication which contains relevant school information, and should be kept readily available for year round reference.
These may be sent as necessary and deal with such matters as field trips, class parties etc. They may be sent by a class teacher or by subject teachers, and may not necessarily be relevant to the entire school body.
Please check your child’s schoolbag daily, since letters often ‘mysteriously’ go missing!
Every student will receive a homework book annually. These assist not only in teaching and learning organizational skills, but also allow for easy and essential communication between parents and teachers. Teachers will check the books on a daily basis: it would be greatly appreciated if parents would do likewise.
We issue official reports for each student several times per year. Reports will be issued this year as follows:
Friday November 22, 1996
Friday March 7, 1997
Friday June 20, 1997
Frequent informal reporting is maintained throughout the year via telephone calls, parent/teacher interviews, and through the use of the homework book.
These are important meetings for teachers and parents, for not only do we provide detailed, and personal observations on student performance to the parents, we receive, in turn, much welcomed parental observations and insights.
Meetings for the 1996/97 are as follows:
Wed, November 27th 1996 3:30 - 9:00 pm
(Dinner break - 5:30 - 6:30 pm)
Wed, March 12th 1997 3:30 - 9:00 pm
(Dinner break - 5:30 - 6:30 pm)
We will also have information evenings for particular grades at specific times to keep families abreast of future plans, curriculum changes and current educational thought.
Unfortunately, emergencies can occur - we may need to call you or vice versa.
Our application forms ask for telephone numbers, work and emergency contact numbers; but if any of this information should change, we need to know! Please write or fax changes to the school secretary.
In any emergency we will make assiduous efforts to contact you by telephone; if we find these means to be unsuccessful, we will make every attempt to try and contact the person you have listed.
Should the weather force us to close the school at an unscheduled time, this will be communicated to you as follows:
Broadcast on CBC - 690 AM and CKNW - 980 AM
Telephoned to you by your class representative
Decisions are not made before 7:00 am on the first day of a school closure.
In the event that a catastrophe strikes the school during an operating day, children will be released to their parents directly from a centrally established control area by the senior employee present. Information will again be broadcast on CBC and CKNW. The children receive regular drills during school hours.
